Hurray for Blogger's Quilt Festival! Such a fun time of the year to see all the wonderful quilts of the blogosphere, all in one place. Thanks to Amy's Creative Side for hosting!
I am entering my Marcelle Medallion for the Favorite Scrappy Quilt category. Scrappy quilts are my favorite, and I feel like this one is my most scrappy of the scrappy quilts I have put together.
When I started this quilt, I was trying to use as much of my scrap stash as possible, with minimal cutting into stashed yardage. I didn't want to purchase anything, but I did end up purchasing just a yard of the Denyse Schmidt print for the backing (which was pieced with some leftover solid).
These colors are my favorite colors ever. I used yellowy-greens, aquas, greys, and soft blues. I wanted to incorporate linen, because I just love it SO MUCH. This quilt is very special, because it it full of some of my very favorite fabrics. Those little scraps I just couldn't bear to part with that I've been saving forever? Yes, a lot of those guys found a loving new home in this Marcelle Medallion quilt.
If you're a Marcelle Medallion quilt follower, you'll notice I left off the final border. In all honesty, I could not decide on a fabric from my stash to use for this last border, and I really did not want to buy anything new. So I made the quilt my own and decided to leave it off. I rather like it, don't you?
The center medallion was a challenge, but it was a fun one, and I ended up deciding that it was easy. I just went slow and followed the instructions, and before I knew it, those intimidating set-in seams were not so intimidating anymore. I do not think I'll be avoiding any more y-seam projects in the future.
I think my favorite part of this quilt are the flying geese. I just love a good goose! I chose to make my geese all blue and use linen as the background. I love how they turned out.

ReplyDeleteGreat use of scraps - and only buying a yard for the back isn't too shabby! Beautiful job.
