My husband's friend from a previous job and his wife just had twins! A boy and a girl. And seeing as how these babies are almost three months old, I thought I needed to hurry up and get some gifts made up for them. Isn't that how it always goes? (Please ignore the dreary photos in this post today...one day it will stop raining so I can go outside and take nicer photos again. Or one day I will learn how to take decent photos indoors with icky lighting.) The fabric here is Michael Miller Zoology II with some various solids.
On Monday evening I started cutting up an old jelly roll of Fig Tree Quilt's Breakfast at Tiffany's so I could make this pretty girly Lattice quilt. Kati has a tutorial for the block on her blog, but she has also just released an awesome pattern booklet that is on sale this week! If you're thinking of making this type of quilt, I'd suggest going for the pattern, what a great bang for your buck, and she's done all the figuring for you!
So those two tops are still in progress, waiting on a trip to Joann's for some batting and backing (I'm thinking some sort of soft Ultra Cuddle). I'm waiting to get together with a friend to meet at Joann's because I'm going to be making some pillow shams and throw pillows for her son's big boy room. We just need some solids, so I'm crossing my fingers that they have some good Kona colors in stock while they're on sale.
In other WIP news, I've got some bee-type blocks to make, plus a little altering to a friend's baby outfit to do. And I haven't touched that Sorbetto muslin since all I need to do is add bias tape which I don't really need practice on. I kind of want to just dive right into the real one with the changes I know I want to make. I think that is all stuff I can tackle this week, as long as I don't start any new projects. I'm going to wait to quilt the baby quilts until next week to make sure I get all these other little things done.

That lattice quilt is going to be really sweet. Love the fabric you're using.
ReplyDeleteI'm making a lattice quilt like that this week. Mine has the colors in the background and the white as the lattice. Your lattice matched up much better than mine did.
ReplyDeleteI also made a baby boy quilt with the Michael Miller print. I love that animal print.
Oh. I made her lattice quilt from the tutorial. Isn't it a dream. It looks so complicate but goes together so quickly. They both look like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteYou inspire me! I love your blog. I have nominated you for Liebster award, you can check it out at http://simplydelighting.wordpress.com/2013/01/16/liebster-award-2/.
ReplyDeleteThe lattice quilt is delightful!
ReplyDeleteboth of your quilt s are going to be great, I am sure she will like them. I love the lattice one, I will have to check out your link to the tutorial.
ReplyDeletethe lattice is so striking, i really must give it a try. I know what you mean about indoor lighting I'm usually sewing at night and too anxious to wait for daylight to take a picture.
ReplyDeleteFound your blog! You're so crafty Kristan! Anyway, soo excited about Kase's pillows, they are going to look great!!
