Travel Crafts

No WIPs today!  Well, I do have WIPs, but I'm not working on them.  We'll be out of town this weekend on a little vacation, so I've been running around taking care of errands for that, as well as packing.  Doesn't seem like much, but add those things to the typical daily stuff plus the fact that this week is already jam-packed for my family, and there's no time for sewing!

I am bringing some crafty stuff with me to do on the plane.  The husband is a sleeper, so I usually have to bring stuff to occupy myself.  Here are the things I'm packing in my carry on:

I've got my trusty Nook, of course.  Love that thing.  It's the non-fancy Wi-Fi version, but it's perfect for me.  I've had it almost 4 years now, and it has probably been the best gadget purchase I've ever made!  I'm definitely a reader, and I've got it loaded up with library books, including The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht (currently reading), The Selection by Kiera Cass, The Uninvited Guests by Sadie Jones, and The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian.

And then there's the yarn and crochet hook.  Once upon a time (as a child) I knew how to crochet, but just a chain stitch.  Now I've re-taught myself, and now I'm working on single crochet stitches.  I don't have any project or pattern that I'm working on, I'm mainly just practicing the stitches and unraveling and practicing all over again.  I'm finding that my stitches are way too tight, so I need more practice to figure out the right tension and such.

And last but not least, I can't forget the embroidery!  These are some little guys I traced from the Doodle Stitching Motif Collection book by Aimee Ray.  No plans for them yet, but I wanted to have something to do.

Did you know you can bring small scissors on the plane in your carry-on?  According to the TSA scissors that are "metal with pointed tips and blades shorter than 4 inches are allowed, but blades longer than 4 inches are prohibited".  But even so, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm going to switch out my fancy Gingher snips for another pair that I won't be so heart-broken about should an agent decide to confiscate them...

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!  I'm sure I'll be freezing on the side of a mountain trying not to fall off my snowboard!

  1. I love your little carry all bag! Thanks for the tip about scissors on the plane. I've never flown with them thinking they'd be taken. Have fun!

  2. I love all your traveling goodies. i also have a husband who is a sleeper when we travel and I always take along stitching goodies, too. I carry a nail clipper for my threads because I am always afraid TSA will take my scissors even though they meet the requirements. Happy Stitching!
