WIP...errr...Thursday

I missed WIP Wednesday yesterday.  But here's what I've been up to for the past couple of days.

colette sorbetto top

I'm eager to do some garment sewing for myself.  I would like to make a Tova in tunic length to wear to Sew South (and maybe QuiltCon if I get my act together soon enough).  I also have my eye on some other nice patterns, and I already have a few in my stash.  But I thought I'd try this simple Sorbetto top from Colette patterns first.  The pleat down the front is super cute, plus it's free!  And it only takes 1.5 yds of fabric + bias tape.

Being my first garment, I've already learned a lot.  Like it's definitely a good idea to make a muslin first.  Because after trying this on, I know that I would really prefer it to be longer.  I also learned that I am a larger size in patterns than I am in ready-to-wear clothing.  And I had a little mishap with the darts, but I know how to do them now.  Glad I got that out of the way with the cheap fabric.  Speaking of the fabric, this is a broadcloth from Joann that resembles chambray.  I was hoping this would be a wearable muslin, and it might still be if I feel comfortable with the length after it's done.  I am hoping to finish it tonight or tomorrow, all it needs is the bias tape (which I am in the process of making).

The other project I'm working on right now are some blocks for a king size quilt I hope to finish for our master bedroom.  There will be more on that later though, a whole post in fact!

While putting this block together, a certain little guy climbed up to the table to see what I was doing.  So I took that as a teaching opportunity to count triangles (his favorite shape) and talk about how shapes can be put together to make different shapes.  That's what quilting is all about, isn't it?

  1. Sweet little hand! I wonder what your plans are for the bed quilt. One of my goals for this year is also a bed quilt for my bed, and I'd planned on ALL navy or deep blue and white. I was thinking something really simple, though -- maybe some large HSTs -- because I'm pretty bad about productivity, and if I don't keep it simple, I've got no chance at all of actually doing it. It seems I never finish anything.
