It was all improv piecing. Which took a lot longer than I thought it would. But I am very happy with the finished product.
I ended up with a little runner that is the perfect size for my table so that a certain small person's little hands can't grab it while we're eating dinner. It sits squarely in the center of the table with space all around it for dishes and food and all the other dinner paraphernalia (and also the all-impotant CANDY CORN!).
The really fun part was trying out FMQ bubbles. This was my first attempt ever at them, and I'm sure it shows that I have zero experience in this area. But luckily I wanted them to look doodled in a way, instead of perfectly rounded and spaced. I also did some straight lines in varying widths for interest. I just love the texture on this thing! I think my favorite part is the solid white with the black bubbles. I will most definitely be FMQing more in the future. Too bad my machine doesn't really allow me to quilt anything too big. The Halloween Quilt was actually a little too big to fit (there was a major struggle there!).
In other news, I received my bundle from the Softly Against Black mosaic contest at Stitched in Color. Thanks so much to Rachel and to Alice (Fresh Modern Fabric)! And of course to everyone that voted. I'm so excited to add these to my stash. I am still looking for a quilt pattern to use these beauties in together. You can get your very own bundle here!
