WIP Wednesday

I showed y'all what I was working on over the weekend.  Well I'm still working on some of that.  But first, a finish, because that makes me feel better about the next two somewhat disasters.

Those commissioned baby blankets are done.  They're soft and cuddly.  I hope the customer and the giftee love them!

On to the disasters.  Remember this?  The pouch sewing kit I was working on?

It's driving me crazy.  Sure, it looks precious.  But I made some pretty big rookie mistakes (I consider myself a rookie, so this should come as no surprise).  You see, the white is linen.  I didn't prewash it.  And I didn't prewash the red fabrics either.  I never prewash...and I always use color catchers in the wash.  Well, the linen has shrunk somehow while using it.  And the red is rubbing off on all the white.  I can't make a pouch out of it now.  I thought I might just turn it into a mug rug and wash it, but won't the linen shrink up really bad and ruin it anyways?  I guess it's worth a shot.

And my next disaster, which isn't such a terrible disaster because I have a fix for it.  The good news is that  I've finished quilting, binding, and washing my 100 Quilts for Kids quilt.

The bad news is that a lot of the seams came apart in the wash.  I know, another rookie mistake.  But the piecing on this quilt was done when I really was a true rookie, like 4 years ago.  One of the first quilts I ever made.  Actually, it may have been the actual first quilt I ever made.  But now the good news number two.  I'm going to iron on some butterfly applique over the frayed edges, and then hand stitch over them for added strength.  Butterflies will go perfectly with the theme.  And then all will be right in the world and I can donate her to a loving home.

On to other WIP, I've sketched out and done the math for a new mini quilt that was inspired by washi tape.  I need to grab a couple of FQs from a lovely online shop and then I'll put them to good use.  Hopefully I can get that started before next Wednesday so I can show y'all a picture.  And my Jack Attack QAL has stalled since I cut the fabric wrong (geez, I really am making a lot of mistakes lately!  *sadface*).  But new fabric is on the way and I'll play catch up, and this time, I'm doing the whole quilt, not just one Jack.

And now I'm all pouty after writing this.  Maybe I really do have too much going on at once.  If I slow down I won't make the mistakes I'm making, I'm sure of it.  But I have so many things I want to do!  Such is the life of a creative person, right?

  1. I really like your idea about appliqueing over seams that are coming apart...my first quilt has that all over the place. I've been doing a "pretty stitch" to keep everything down, but it really isn't that pretty.
